Number Shelf

I'm currently stuck on all the details in my office. I have a shelf above the window that I needed to put something on! The thing is, I'm not a collector of much and I couldn't think of anything cool to display. The ledge is very shallow, so that ruled out many things that I'd typically put on a shelf.

So, I decided to put on numbers (if you know me I have somewhat of a number fetish).  I went to Hob Lob and started picking from their VAST array of numbers. I brought a few home and started thinking.....It would even be more interesting if I made the numbers out of things that I had around the house. The kids could help me, and it would cost less!

So, that is how the number shelf evolved. I like it, and it only cost me $3.50!

How to:
#1: stenciled on an old piece of wood

#2: traced one of the Hob Lob #'s on cardboard that I had paint drops on

#3: more traced and cut cardboard, but I glued bits of silver wrapping tissue around it

#4: Cut out a #4 from black paper and glued it on a coffee cup plate with black edging (possibly my fave number up there).

#5: Painted from Hob Lob $1 on clearance

#6: I 3 x 5 piece of paper that I had tested wall paint on, the I stenciled a 6 on it.

#7: on clearance from Hob Lob $1 then I put some scrapbook paper under a mat and frame I already had, and removed the glass. I hot glued the number to the paper.

#8: Cut again from cardboard and left plain.

#9: on clearance from Hob Lob $1 and covered with scrap book paper

#10: I took another old square piece of wood, painted a white square in the middle, and then washed most the paint off and then stenciled a black 10 in the middle of it. (my other fave...very rustic).

So there ya go! You can make a number shelf or wall display for cheap! Add whatever you have around your house, cut the numbers out of cereal boxes, add buttons, ribbon, tin foil ect!
