Wall Sconces to Candelabra...next project on the Room Re-Do!

Drumroll please.....
It's time to reveal the next project in our Room Re-do for Under $50   Space Re-do for under $70!

(Ok, I have to admit we went a little over on the price limit, but in my defense, we could have done it for under $50, but we found a couple "extras" that REALLY made the space!  I , my sister really wanted them, so...no worries, we'll just have a small title change for this series!)

Pretty isn't she?

She looks so nice with our other Room Re-do projects:

and

Well when I found her at GW, she looked like this, and she wasn't pretty! ...Sort of rustic, but so much better with Liquid nails and paint!

Wall Sconces $1.99 for the pair at GW!...SCORE!

I hung her from painted twine, since we were really trying not to spend any more $!  and I actually ended up really liking her that way!

That's right....just Liquid Nailed the backs together and painted her!

I'm really loving this space!

More on our Room Space Re-do for under $50  $70 coming up, so stay tuned!

New Blog Stuff in 2012!!!

 New Blog Stuff!

The New Year will be bringing in some new things on Creatively Living.

1.) We will not just be a party goer, but a party thrower! (we will be having a linky party). I'm not positive on what day of the week yet, but I do know it will contain a craft/DIY and a get healthy section of the party.

2.) Be a guest poster! You will have the option of submitting a guest post. I will be featuring other blogs/tutorials/DIY ...(or whatever you're submitting) twice a month!

3.) Along with a weekly linky party, we will also begin "With the Kids Wednesday", where I will feature projects to do with your kids, or ways to include them in home improvement. After all, I have 5 of them, and not only is time spent together ever so important, but there are a lot of able bodies here!

4.) We will be showing our Room Re-do's for under $50 series (ok, I'll be honest, my first room for this series, I went $20 over on....I might be changing it to Room Re-do's for under $70, (but that just doesn't have the same ring to it!).  Anyways, we will create some fabulous spaces in creatively cheap (outside the box) ways!

5.) We will be featuring some new Sponsors!....and they will be offering some terrific giveaways! So stay tuned to win some fantastic stuff!

So raise your coffee cup! Here's to 2012!!!

The Best of 2011

Here is what I (and you, my readers) felt were the best projects of 2011!

I still LOVE my open cabinets and I've had them for almost a year now! (in case you're wondering). I just put dollar store plastic snowflakes in them for Christmas. The chalkboard paint was a fun addition.

I'm no carpenter, but this basic tutorial will give you a brief run down of just how simple the process really is. I'm pretty sure, whatever house I move to, I'll be making these again!

This is a wall-art sign I made for the Room Re-do for under $50! I will be revealing it in Jan so stay tuned!

I'm still loving my nursery. It's made me want to paint every room gray!

Check out the kitchen reno. This took forever, but was well worth it!

Check out the stairway makeover to see how to do paper lettering....It's more work, but hey, it's free!

This is part of the office make-over that will be revealed in the next month or two.

This was a reader fave, as well as the other links below.

Most of these were finished before I decided to try blogging professionally, so basically no spell check, no photoshop ect...  Hope you enjoy! As I posted these, I realized 2011 was actually a really productive year!

Christmas Dress Remake for $0.90!

Last year, my mom bought Chloe a beautiful Christmas dress. This year, it still could have fit, but what little girl wants to wear a Christmas dress 2 yrs in a row, and even if she did, Chloe is now 9 going on 16 and the dress is now, "sort of little kid-ish".

(this is our dress makeover)

Last year's dress. Isn't the red material ever so work-able!

We decided to shoot for something close to this. (Target.com)

I cut strips that were 4 in wide. Two of the material layers were see-through, so I had to cut parts of the dress to back it also. I used the bottom of the dress, so that I could get out of heming it. Luckily, one of the layers was already ruffled.

So I ruffled them (slightly) and sewed the netted layers over the slinky material. (so that we wouldn't have any see-through material). Then sewed one layer to another.

Next I took the belt off the dress and used glass rocks, (we used them for a marble jar for rewards and punishments...good system) and made a marble/fabric necklace (there were no round marbles at our Dollar Store!).

Here is a good close-up of the necklace. Tutorial here at Crafted Sparrow.

and here's the skirt! (I have to say it was a good makeover!)

The necklace and the skirt cost me $0.90 (for the big elastic waistband)...that was it! Shirt, leggings and shoes, she already had.

So there you have it. A Christmas dress re-make for $0.90!

and since we were playing around with cameras and photography, I have to throw this picture in too.
