It's Finished!!!
The Downstairs Gallery Wall (and all the trim and paint that goes along with it).
This is the basement before we moved in. I don't have any pictures of the actually gallery wall side, but this is the wall directly across from it. So, originally wood paneling, old-school flooring...you get the idea.
For a year and a half, we made this side of our basement "the Garage" (since we don't have a real garage). It was blocked off by the TV, chairs, work benches, ect... and all the tools, saws, and MESS was in it! I could barely stand it, but I agreed to it in order to get more help from the hubby.
Then came the time to take it all down, Christmas Eve was going to be at our place this year, and I insisted that we rid the basement seating area of all our SAWS!
So I cleared, and cleaned and stuffed, placed all the tools in other areas, and ....I began making the Gallery Wall.
Here is the gallery in it's begining stage.
......and here it is finished!
Since I already have other picture walls in my Master Bedroom, and in my upstairs hallway, I tired to include more memorabilia and not as many pictures in this gallery.
There were three drawings that I included that my gallery that were drawn by my great-great grandpa! They are dated 1908.
The kid's and I made some wall art. You can see all the details on that HERE.
and these cute engraved baby spoons that were my husband's. You can read about the recovered matting and displaying family heirlooms HERE.
I was able to book a local artist to draw this awesome family picture. (he is a 6yr old named Joel, and he happens to live here). You can read all about that HERE.
Of course, we painted the wall and had to add the faux trim and molding. You can read about how to put faux trim on paneling HERE.
Yea! It's finished! Now on to some bookcases I have to finish up for the next basement wall!

I just love that family drawing!! So perfect!
ReplyDeleteKatie, That turned out beautifully! You did a wonderful job. I love the art work from your g-g-grampa and the hands on kids' art. What a sweet wall you have there...and not a saw in sight!;>) xo Diana
ReplyDeleteReally sweet wall. Your grandfather's pieces are beautiful but I have to say that the family portrait is pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteYour grandfather's drawings are wonderful, but I'm madly in love with your son's drawing and the scale of it! Might have to steal this idea in some way! Love the way it all pulls together!
ReplyDeleteThe giant home grown art in the middle is fantastic! Your grandfather's art is also a special treasure. Job well done!
ReplyDeleteLove the giant drawing by Joel!! So cute! Is it framed or canvased, I can't quite tell from the pics? I love gallery walls and want to do one but I am alittle chicken.... :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie!, it was a just piece of famed plywood that I picked up from the Goodwill. Someone else had already made it a painting, I just painted over it. There is a link on this post that will connect you to the process with before and afters, if you'ld like.
DeleteThe nice thing about gallery walls now days, is that I really feel like they have become a free-for-all. Meaning that people (even in the magazines) put anything and everything up (unmatched pictures and frames), without evenly spacing them. In other wards, you can't go wrong! Also, I often take down pieces of gallery walls and switch them out until it's just what I want. I say go for it!
Your gallery wall is beautiful! I absolutely love how you displayed that fork and spoon! Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteblessings,
karianne

ReplyDeleteMelody
So unique! I love that you broke it up with the white board in the middle and used some elements rather than pictures. What precious memories you have on that wall. I love it!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week!
Deborah
I just noticed you were featured at Under the Table and Dreaming! Congratulations on the feature, friend! It was well deserved- I mean who can beat that family "portrait"?!
ReplyDeletexo Becca
I love it too. Although I usually am crazy unsentimental and don't hold on to anything, so what happens when I start having cute kid art work in my decor....how could I ever paint over that?? and....it's huge. I guess I'll just have to find a place for it....forever. lol There's still lots of white space around the picture to work with for the next place.
