Dishtowel Pillow (Spring-i-fied)

This post could have so many different titles.

Dishtowel Pillow....

Spring Dishtowel Pillow....

Pillow you could make on a road trip.....

Pillow you could make in Army quarters.....

Pillow project (no machine needed)....

....you get the idea of what I've been up to.

I had purchased a dish towel from Target when I remodeled our kitchen, hoping it would bring a little more "modern-ness" to the room. I ended up liking a more subtle dishtowel more, but, shame on me, I never returned the Target towel!

I don't even know where I acquired this pillow, but it needed some new clothes, and it just happened to be the PERFECT size to fit in that dishtowel, if I were to sew the sides of the towel up!

So, that's what I did. I actually brought it on the road trip, so I could work on something in the car (and have a project to show you while I was traveling).  Here I turned it inside out and sewed up the longest side.

I figured I would then stuff the pillow in and sew the two shorter sides up to leave the edge showing. (I used a needle and thread) It is a pretty small pillow, so it didn't take long. I was sad the sewing machine couldn't fit in the van on our trip, but I would have had to strap one of my kids to the top, so I left it at home.

This couldn't have been a better fit (how often does that sort of thing work out?) but if you had too much dishtowel, or too much pillow, you could always cut pieces off and resew or re-stuff.

I brought all my yellow tiny scraps because, as I've mentioned before, I'm working on pillows for the basement. I also wanted to add a little bit of something springy, because I love the details.

So I folded over one of the scraps. It was about two inches wide and hand stitched the bottom. I then ruffled it by pulling one of the threads, but not the other. This makes it gather.

Then I rolled it up into a cute flower (that you've probably seen a zillion times in blog land), and stiched the flower to the pillow.

Lucky for me, the kids had found a black button on the floor of the room we were staying in. I'm hoping it's really not to a pair of pants I own.  A little glue and wall-lah!

So now I have a "'spring-i-fied" dishtowel pillow.  These dishtowel pillows are EASY! and if you don't have many material choices where you live (like me), it's an easy way to use some fun material.

  24. So nice. I have two of the red/white towels with the same pattern. I recently used a dish towel from Target to cover the seat of a red and white chair. Their towels are cheap and really cool. Thanks for the inspiration.
