Gardener's Wreath

I know, I know.  You've probably seen enough spring and/or garden wreaths to last you for this year, but this one was wanted by someone else, so I had to make it.

This Christmas, my family decided to do a "gift your gift" exchange (fabulous idea!)

Obviously, you "gift" something you're good at, or someone else would want from your talents (or your muscles).

My mom gave a photo session away, one of my aunts made my family dinner and donated babysitting,  a few of the younger guys donated back breaking labor, and my gift was to make a seasonal wreath, to whomever won it (you play this like a white elephant gift exchange).

My aunt won and wanted a spring wreath, I created a board on Pinterest and she seemed to like "earthy" wreaths, and she loves to garden.

So...here's what I started with.

Most items were from the $ store. The dark greenery was from Hobby Lobby, the grapevine wreath I had stashed in my basement, the little nest from from a thrift store and the butterfly, I never used.

I started by cutting a strip of burlap, and wrapping it around the wreath. I frayed the edges a little and hot glued it to the top.

Then I took two different types of greenery and wrapped them together. I stuffed them in the edges of the burlap, along with a little hot glue.

Next I made a burlap bow. I'm not a huge fan of bows, but the wreath needed something besides the pot w/ bird's nest, that I had planned on.

To make a quick bow, you start by circling the fabric around itself.

Then you take a piece of ribbon or twine or whatever you can find to tie it in the middle.

Then you spread out the loops, and you have a bow.

I took a few of the burlap "strings" and tied the pot and wreath on. I had to hot glue the wreath, a little moss, and an egg on the pot.

Pretty simple!

Now the picture that I was following on Pinterest, had a cute little shovel hanging from the middle. I looked and looked and couldn't find anything small enough, so I figured I could always go to her house and add it, if I found the perfect "something".
But I had to throw that idea in there, in case you wanted to make the wreath.

I promise....my last wreath.

Well, until summer, which is really only a month or so away!

    1. I love wreaths too....obviously. lol
But I feel like this is the same "green, brown, nature, with a little something else" wreath that has been done 2 zillion times on blogs this season. haha

I still wanted one of my own after photographing it on my door though. It's fun to see "different" things on blogs, but the pretty standards always look nice on a door. :)

  3. That IS a really cute wreath, although I have to say my favorite part of this post is you sharing how your family exchanges 'gifts' at Christmas. I LOVE that idea!!! What a wonderful way to celebrate through acts of service, which is so Christ-like!!! I plan on pitching this idea to my family. I would really like to focus on this instead of presents, especially since we are all not really in 'need' of anything and pretty much live in excess as it is! Thanks for sharing.

PS- your Aunt is SO lucky ;)
