This project is an oldie, pre-"serious blogging" post, (for lack of a better way to put it) but I thought I'd pull it out of the archives for the

Here it is.....
Last weekend I was a weekend warrior!
We have a wall-length closet in our downstairs hallway. It's a good thing, since there's no garage in this old house. I finally cleaned out the kid's hand-me-down/fabric catch-all area to make a sewing nook!
Moved this self down and added another. Painted it Bershire White from Colorplace. Yes, that's Walmart's brand and I think it covers rather well for $12.00/gallon.
Lovely closet :(
Added some of my yardsale fave items. Especially these gals that were meant for a sewing nook! See their dress transformation here: http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-2-of-sewing-nook-re-do-new-dress.html
Here is the towel rack turned ribbon holder. See here: http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-4-of-sewing-nook-redo-repurposing.html
Creating cute organizational contianers. See here: http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-5-of-sewing-nook-re-do-organize.html
Peg holders and pegs turned thread holder :) I love the organization! See how I made them here: http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/06/peg-board-thread-holders.html
Lamp redo and adding other peices of sparkle see here: http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-3-of-sewing-nook-re-do-little-bit.html
Bed sheet turned curtian turned table skirt/hide-all (fabric is organized behind here).
I have to get right and left side pictures, since this is up against a hallway and I can't stand far enough back to get a decent picture.
The flowered material is stapled around a canvas that I had sitting around.
Here you can somewhat see how the hallway side is 4 closets in one, and how this is the first nook.
Despite what I had spent on yardsale things over the past couple yrs, (stuff I noted that I already had sitting around), I probably spent $6 on paint and $4 on material/ribbon/paper. Entire nook: under $10! If you include what I spent on yardsale finds, it was more about $17 in this and that's. So a total of under $30! Woohoo!!!
So here are the final pics of the small closet nook turned sewing nook. The fabric and sewing machine are stored behind the table skirt, but I'm sure they will be out on the table area soon :)

You did a fantastic job! I love everything!
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought of doing that in that space -- you have inspired me to try something similar in my front closet aka craft pit. I love the table idea - I so want to do this!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGreat way of turning a messy eye sore into a fabulously functional area!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out wonderful, Katie!!! I have used Walmarts paint and been happy with it too. I am now hooked on the Kilz colors that they have now. It is absolutely amazing and at $22 it is better than that designer paint every where else for at least $35! Covers in one coat unless it is red and then it was only 2 coats! So what have you made since the nook has been done????
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - you certainly turned this closet into a incredibly functional space! Thanks so much for linking up to Be Inspired today.
