The nursery: Above the bed art

The nursery is finally getting put together! I have been pondering for months what colors to use, what bedding ect, ect, and I had to ponder for so long becuase it just wasn't coming together! I wanted to use things I already had, I wanted to keep the cost at an all-time low, and I needed to use things that would work for a boy and a girl. I don't know why this nursery project was so difficult! It was like a had writer's block....but for decorating! So 4 months, and 5 cans of paint later....I've choosen the colors, finished painting, installed lighting and have finished the first project! (yes, that's all been today. Once I finally made some decisions, it just seemed to take off!).

OK, project #1: Above the bed art
I wanted to have something big, flashy and monogramed above the bed and crib. I envisioned more fancy, antique frames, but just when I was about to head out in search of some today, I remembered that I had found this pictures in Hawaii. They had been in a flood at a matting/framing store and so they were selling them damaged for $4. I bought all 4 that were there. So, I thought, these are the right size, I have two that match and they are a great price.....free to me from the basement!
(above: see the warped matting)
Below: Sprayed the frame with a glossy black.
Began to stencil the background on the canvas (which is really the warped matting and picture turned backwards). You can find this stencil template at http://jonesdesigncompany.com/ go to tutorials. I copied it and shrank it down in Word.
Ugh. It took forever to stencil and paint it all!!! Good thing I did it while I was watching a boring movie.
Love the way it turned out. Now I just need to do the next one with an E...for Eva.
