Updating the previous blog post with the revamped DIY picture!
I do most of my own wall art at my house, but this means that it usually involves circles, or lines...or let's face it, something I can trace. My drawing skills are about that of a 3rd graders. My mother and sister's are increadible painters, but unfortunatly, I didn't inherit those skills.
Despite the poor picture quailty of my camara, you can see that I started with a picture from the Goodwill (50% off I might add!). Just happened to be Paul Cerzanne's Basket of Apples. It's a nice oil actually.
When I purchased it at the Goodwill, I had full intentions of just painting over it. I had no idea it was anything special, but since it actually matched my kitchen (in my old house), I decided to just use it. Since then, I have googled and realized that it's actually worth something...I guess it's time for it to meet Ebay. My real love was the frame!
Middle section was taped to paint inside. Always like the way that looks on canvas. I painted it with some white paint I had around (not the Kilz you see in the picture). Then I cut a triangle out of a cereal box to have something to trace for the zigzags.
Close up of what the painting looks like.
I think I'll change the font of the words.
The end result. I like the way it turned out, but the frame might be a little too bold for it. We'll see. Right now, it's just nice having something on my kitchen wall.
So....that was the previous pic. I liked the chevron pattern, but it was just too light for the bold frame..then it dawned on me to add a little something in.....
So I googled and found this bird and branch
and I printed and traced and cut....
and now, I like it much better in my kitchen!

ReplyDeleteHI there I have a bird stencil very similiar to bird you have on your picture. Hope you don't mind if I copy the general idea of yours. I love the simplicity of your picture.
ReplyDeleteBirds are very lovely and soothing aren't they?
Somehow I started out with birds in our bedroom and bathroom which are at one end of our single wide mfg. home so not many saw my birds theme. Well since discovering all the incredible blogs and Graphics Fairy with all the wonderful free bird images some of the birds have "migrated" to our living room. I asked my hubby if he minded and he said "would it really matter if I did?". lol So in consideration of his feelings I have made sure the l/r bird population has remained minimal.
But they're so darned cute, pretty and colorful. Ah well. Graphics Fairy has also made me a French convert. I have some new French sayings wall art I was able to make using "stuff" in my stashes. Since hubby sees it's not costing him anything he doesn't seem to mind the new French wall art sayings. Ah the way to keep peace. We're both retired so we're together 24/7.
I don't have alot of bare walls but have replaced alot of what I did have up before. I like to rotate art, whatever depending on my mood, money and season. Thanks all of you awesome bloggers for so many incredible ideas I can implement in an hour or so.
