This weekend, I found the last of my kitchen appliances (stove). (ok, really I still need a hood, but that's pretty inexpensive and easy. Thinking about a white one, with Rust-Olieum stainless steal spray). Total cost of kitchen stainless steal appliances: $1,450....not bad, and only one was even used!
So best ways I've found to obtain inexpensive appliances:
1.) Scratch and Dent....you probably already know this one.
2.) Craigslist.
3.) Go to clearance at a normal store, and ask for the appliance for less!
That's what I did for the stove above. Someone had returned it to Hm Depot used. It had food baked onto the top of the flattop, so it looked fairly bad sitting in the clearance section. Now this part is a little "outside of the box".....yes, sometimes I am, hence the blog title. So, I decided to try to clean it right then and there. Took my baby's sock off, opened some ceramic top cleaner (planned on buying it, of course) and started scrubbing. The baked food came off! Then I found someone working there and asked, "can I get this for less?". He asked the manager and lowered it to $350! Ususally it's a $600 oven :) Best to ask a guy this sort of question, in my opinion. Not that it's a sexist thing, I just think they are less rule abiding by nature.
Point of the story is : Don't be afraid to ask!
Now the kitchen appliances are complete......on to the backsplash!

I scored my appliances off craigslist! We got an incredible deal on a basicly brand new set. I even dared to haggle the guy down a little more and guess what....he agreed! :D - Score two for us!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal I love it when that happens! Oh and I'm your newest followers.
