Kitchen Progress

When we moved in, the kitchen was pink walls and some parts of the cuboards were pink, and there were (and still are) yellow tiles....everywhere!!! There was a lovely pink/yellow/purple basket border too :)
I actually started to like the yellow 4in x4in tile and decided to keep them. I planned black granite counters, dark flooring and yellow and lime green accents, with white cuboards. I thought it would be a way to make the yellow tiles work.
Well, now the tile is in. Grout tomorrow. The countertops will be put in tomorrow and I'm thinking....ya, I probably really need to replace the old yellow tile....and so goes the process of home remodeling. You replace one eye sore and then the others seem really bad.

Here's a picture of somthing similar....well, mine's not nearly as nice, but same colors at least :)

Picture from Southern Living...close to the idea I'm looking for. White cabinets, glass fronts in some. Black granite counters, and white subway tile.

Old Tile on the wall......everywhere on the wall. Backsplash, around the doorway, around the window....ect...    What a lot of work to replace!

Flooring without grout. It actually looks darker than this.

Shame on me....this pic needs to be sideways and I'm too tired to really care (long days the past week and a half!) I'm sure you all get the idea. My thought is to cut it into about 3-4 in high strips and use it as the backsplash bottom.

White subway tiles everywhere else to replace the yellow??

It's coming together. We've made so much progress in the last 2 weeks!

  1. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

  2. You could paint the tile instead of replacing it - there is special paint for that and it would save money and time.

  3. I'm trying to google how to paint it right now! I tried this morning and it so far, scratches right off! Maybe if I sand it more, it will stay?
