Kitchen Nook Table Revamp

Do your rooms "evolve". Our kitchen has taken on a country feel, and so I revamped our breakfast nook table to fit.

I originally bought it for it's legs, but it had a generic banquet room table tap. Dark wood vaneer over compressed wood.  This is a close example of what it looked like originally.

So, we started by cutting off the sides. The I sanded and primed and painted it! Veneer is TOUGH to get paint to stick to. Then I began to distress it.

It was tough, becuase water pased latex paint is sort of rubbery, and if it doesn't stick enough is sort of peels. So, sanding didn't work well. (please let me know if you have suggestions).

I tried adding a little teal to the edges of the sanded areas.

Here she is. I like how the shape works so well for this area. The rounded edges make it easier for children to eat over their plates :)

I also tried to add some Distressed Ink in place to darken them and used polyurathane on top to coat it.

Now on to puttying and painting the beadboard almost done with the nook!

  1. Love it! Very functional and beautiful. I am laughing at your EAT sign because I put one up in my kitchen a while back. As if with all these kids in our houses we need to remind them what do at the table!

  2. Haha! No kidding Racheal. I think I hear something about food every 1/2 hr! Maybe I should put a sign up that says, 'wait"!
