Joining Wall Re-do

This is a "joining" wall, that lies between our entryway, our dinning room and our living room. Since I was giving the LR an update....I HAD to include the joining wall....right! Or so I told my husband!...Since everyone's husbands have nick names on their blogs, I will call mine...Mr. Practical. He is the most wonderful man EVER! and is quite fantastic to help me with wiring and plumbing, but would probably rather I do other things than spend hours redecorating a shelf 5 times!

OK, anyways...This wall was ALOT of DIYing! The frame was already a shadow box that I expanded to be a deeper shadow box, because I was lacking resources in my "acquired things from Goodwill" shelf, and felt I must use my silver monogram in the box. The original shadow box had a nature print in it.
I found the lamp base at the Goodwill, and the shade came from probably some random lamp that I picked up at a yard sale. The other odds and ends were from around the house.

The black cabinet was a piece of furniture I picked up at a yard sale for $10 before we were married!

Here was the wall before the update. Really, not bad. Therefore convincing my husband that I needed to spend time re-doing it, was a tough case.

Here is a close up of the corner of the shadow box frame that I deepened to fit the Hobby Lobby letter. The letter had broken into 3 pieces and I had to work wonders with some wall putty and a new paint job! I also learned that it works best to expand a shadow box frame with a nail gun!

The lamp shade I simply painted gray! I really love how it turned out! Yes, old lamp shade taking up room in my workroom, turned to interesting gray lampshade!

Here is how the back looks now. You can see how I took the smaller old pieces of wood out and added larger ones to make a deeper shadow box.

The bottle came from a free bin at a yard sale. I had the material scraps around the house. Added a black #3, (because it needed something and I have a number obsession), the books on the other end I acquired from my great-grandmother's attic, candle holder was $3 at Pier One years ago, flowers from outside this fall, burlap I had from another project, and the bowl was a steal $1 clearance at Walmart!

So, there ya have it! "Joining wall" finished! Really didn't cost me much, just a couple late nights and lattes!

  3. I have just such a small wall in my house and am constantly trying to come up with ways to make the space functional as well as beautiful. I love how yours turned out. I "pinned" it for future inspiration.
