I have never had to buy my 1 yr old Eva, clothes. It's a blessing to have so many wonderful hand-me-downs when your husband is in grad school and you have 5 kids! However, there are times when the choices in her closet are not as cute as what is currently calling to me at Target!
Eva was given this hand-me-down Christmas dress. It's nice velvet fabric, but I figured I could make it a little cuter.
Below are things I found for the dress re-make. Black material from my closet, a dollar store gold flower, and ribbon I bought with a 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon (about $2).
I used my no sew stick-iron stuff, (happen to have lots in my sewing cupboard) to iron the ribbon on. I wouldn't suggest ironing it on for clothes that you'll use and wash often, but since Christmas dresses are usually only worn once or twice, I attached it the lazy way.
I don't have pictures of the fabric flowers I made, but I used the tutorial off this site .
Here is my uncooperative model at the beginning of our shoot. I took about 5 zillion pictures, and it was still tough to find a good one.
Plastic Christmas ornaments and a stool seemed to help her mood.

So much better!

I love the colour red on little girls. I love your additions. When my daughter was a little girl as much as I love pink , I always wanted to buy red. So I would snap up anything red. I still do now.My daughter is 11. I love seeing red. (Especially at Christmas time) I would love to be able to sew.

Having just left my grandson's home, I'm still in the mood to appreciate little ones. She's absolutely adorable and that dress doesn't look anything like the original. So impressed! That's way more than just a "good job" it's an amazing make-over. Enjoy her while at this stage, even when uncooperative they are just tooooo cute.
ReplyDeleteLoving the ribbon accent and matching headband! What a sweet and beautiful baby girl. :)
