I had to finish so many projects in time for my bedroom reveal, that I didn't have time to post on a few of them, so you'll be seeing master bedroom reveal tutorials for the next week or so.
Here is a my tutorial for a DIY ruffled lampshade:
First, find a plain ol', fairly boring lamp shade. I don't remember where I got mine, but I wasn't a huge fan of them.
Next, take ribbon of your choice and sew a seam down the middle. I purchased silky ribbon because my room is fairly feminine. To estimate how much ribbon I needed, I wrapped it around the area I needed it for twice. If you use a Micheal's or Hobby Lobby coupon, you can probably get enough ribbon for pretty cheap! I purchased two spools and it cost under $4.
If you don't know how to ruffle a ribbon, sew down the middle and only backs stitch at the end. Then pull one of the strings at the top and you will see that you can scrunch the material down.
Yes, I lost the door to the bobbin area. This is my back-up sewing machine....everyone needs a back-up sewing machine...right?
Next I took my ribbon and some craft glue and started gluing. I figure a hot glue gun would have worked too, but I wanted to be able to re-adjust it, and thought that would be easier with a glue that had a longer drying time.
I call this "ingenuity". Use what you can find to hold it in place while it dries.
Now you've turned a boring lamp shade into a pretty lamp shade with interest.
I felt this detail added some fun character to the room. Plus I love details and don't think I could have left them plain.
If you haven't seen the Master Bedroom Reveal yet, you can find it here.
