If you don't already know, I'm up past my eyeballs in renovation/decorating, trying to finish up my bedroom. I'm hoping to enter it in a couple linky contests (Imagine the Impossibilities, and Whisperwood Cottage's, First Projects of 2012) located on my sidebar.
My project, for the past couple nights, was to make some wall art for my bathroom. It has never had been decorated AT ALL, (besides a couple mismatched towels).
I purchased these two frames at Hobby Lobby a couple years ago. They were on the 90% off rack and totaled to about $4 each. I think they are nice frames, but as the house has evolved, they never seemed to have place to go.
Fronts and backs.
When I saw this wall art below, (she sells these in her Etsy store) at Grand Design, the backs of my frames popped in my head, and I knew what I was going to do with them!
By painting the backs, I can still use the front part of the frame if I want someday.
Ok, so my stencil (that I made out of a cereal box) was too narrow, so I painted two zigzags rows at a time with the same color to make them thicker.
Carpe Diem means "to live for the day". Growing up I was told it meant "Seize the Day".
I thought that would be an appropriate thing to see in the morning!
I hung a little branch and used one of my $ store birds (wish I would have bought 20 of these birds, but that's another story).
and .....now I'm basically done with the bathroom in my room! Just a little bit of window treatment left (to be seen later this week).

So cute and I love that you painted the backs. That was brilliant!
ReplyDelete"Well, ain't you somethin'"! As they say down here. Those are darling! And what a great way to start the day...you're right! I love the branch and bird too. It sets off the art work and softens the graphics. That branch is beautiful. Did you varnish it or stain it? I have some branches I've collected for projects but they don't look like that! Mine are not that pretty but maybe I should try a little sanding and varnishing even if that's not what you did. See how one inspiration leads to another? That's why I love my blogging friends! You motivate, inspire and give wings to our creative sides which we all have...even me! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam I Am,
DeleteThe branch is from my neighbor. It's a curly willow branch. He son has his own landscaping company and she gave me lots of them. I have a bunch in a pot and the rest I'm hoarding in my basement! lol

It looks awesome! I love the chevrons, but drawing out the pattern scares me. Was it hard? lol
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Sew Woodsy!
No it wasn't hard. I used a ruler and a cereal box to try to make the pattern. It wasn't perfect, but believe it or not, chevron patterns are forgiving. :)

I think they turned out amazing. I love chevron and I love grey. Plus it's brilliant you didn't have to paint the front! Win win :)

LOVE it!! Seriously! The whole process... that you got the frames so cheap, that you used the backs in case you ever wanted to use the front, that you used a cereal box stencil, that you improvised as you went... I could go on and on, but I'll be featuring this tonight in my Sunday Spotlights! Great job!

Hi Katie Just found your blog tonight. You're sure a busy Mom and all the other hats you wear. It helps to be young too. lol Love the frames and the way you made do and will have the fronts for another project no doubt. I sure enjoy seeing how you make something out of anything. To me that's half the fun and I try to forget I'm doing it cause my budget screams when I even think of spending any money on anything. I'm 71, married 43 yrs., 4 kids, 6 grandkids. My husband was in Air Force when we married on Nov. 30, 68, he left for Nam on 12/26/68. Our 1st. date was Oct. 18, 68. We didn't waste any time. We've moved alot but not due to service requirements, I'm part gypsy I guess. I really enjoyed finding and reading your blog, seeing your project. Gives me ideas for alot of frames I have. Happy week.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to stop by! Sounds like you know all about all the moves the service give s you! They can be a lot of work, but it's fun to move to new places and meet new people! ...I guess that makes me part gypsy too :)
DeleteHope you had a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by!
