Walgreens and Express Scripts

I am a military spouse, and have been for twelve years. I love the convenience of military pharmacies, but for the past four years, I have lived in an area that is not near any military base.

Lucky for me, there is a Walgreens pharmacy nearly three miles from my house!  They have always provided me with wonderful service and when I have had concerns about insurance prescription reimbursements, they have even called my insurance provider (Express Scripts) for me!

I was very saddened to hear that Walgreens and Express Scripts were unable to come to a contractual agreement this year. This past fall, I received a letter in the mail stating that Walgreens would no longer be able to be reimbursed by Express Scripts. After further investigation, I understood that  Express Scripts would not even reimburse Walgreens to the industry standard! Understandably, Walgreens was unable to except the low reimbursement rate Express Scripts offered.

I'm a type 1 diabetic and I have 5 children. Thinking of moving all of those prescriptions to a different pharmacy seems like quite an inconvenience! 

Walgreens is also saddened by Express Scripts inability to come to a reasonable contractual agreement and cares greatly for their costumers!

For only $10 per year, a membership includes everyone in your immediate family, including a spouse, dependents 22 years and younger and even pets! Individuals may join for $5. Join and you can receive discount prices on your prescriptions.

--Savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications.

--Discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies

--Bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services.

That's quite a savings for me for a mere $10! (especially when it comes to all the photofinishing I do!)
