The Office Reveal:
Before we moved in (below)
Colors before: purple walls and dark purple trim.
Office After
This room is a wonderful addition to the original 1948 ranch that we live in.
The original owners turned their sun porch into an office in (most likely) the 60's.
It has nice french doors, and is the perfect place for an office, (right off the living room.)
This is not my favorite picture, but it shows that this is a room off the main living area.
This is not my favorite picture, but it shows that this is a room off the main living area.
This is MY desk area. My husband likes to take it over (because he was deployed when we moved in and I made his in the basement...no, I'm not mean. I actually thought he'ld like it down there!).
My metal basket of "to-do's. I usually keep my dietetics work in here.
My latest lamp re-do and "yarned shade".
View of the ladder shelves. I purchased these from Walmart.com about four years ago.
The yellow picture is framed vintage wall paper that I found at a yard sale.
*Side note explanation about my book choices:
I noticed on my downstairs bookshelf post (the Mid Wall) that we had about 90% war books on the shelves. I sort of cringed when I noticed that.
I place books places based on color. My husband would do this by category if it were up to him.
If you wonder about our book choices,(we are not war fanatics, as it may look like). My husband is a Polical Science/History Major, who spent 10 years as an Army infantry office. He is now getting his Masters in Divinity, and he LOVES to read....thus the selection.
Picture of my husband as a child....funny how we grow up to be what we pretend as children!
The boat picture is one I purchased at the GW. I added some old baseboards to make a bigger frame for it.
Desk was free off Craigslist...score!
The chair, (has a match that is usually in here too) I painted black. You can find the painted chair tutorial HERE.
...and, you can see the faux houndstooth throw tutorial HERE.
My other work storage areas are my "traveling desk" (I travel to different sites as a dietitian, so my "desk" is the black file case on the bottom right), and the red and white basket is a huge catch-all for all the papers that need to be kept or filed.
All the little this and that's are mainly from yardsales.
This picture didn't fit this house style (in my opinion) so I made it into a push-pin board.
These green and brown file boxes take the place of our old file cabinet that didn't fit well in this room.
You can see in the corner that I added faux trim, and spent MANY hours painting it all white!
Faux trim tutorial HERE.
This is the corner where the kids do a little of their school work on the computer. There is also a mail catch and two pictures that my sister painted for me.
The curtains I found at the GW. They are BH&G curtains.
The little cabinet is a cupboard that I found along the road. I added the little legs.
If you look in the upper right hand corner in the above picture, you'll see a bit of this number shelf.
This room had a cute little "nook shelf", but I'm not a collector and couldn't think of what to put on it.
I ended up coming up with this number shelf idea. You can see the tutorial HERE. I think it cost me around $3.
So now that the lamp shade is finished, I guess I can show you this room and be done with it! (the rest of the office has been finished since Nov!)
The next month will be another room reveal, outdoor areas, and the never ending basement...

That is so funny! I had so many "war-type" books on some shelves I posted on it the basement, and after I revisited it, I thought, "oh no, people are going to think that's a little strange". So I had to explain myself in this post lol!!! I think these shelves are war, religion, and Pottery Barn at the bottom! haha

What is that black on your old teacher desk? We have an old teacher desk but he top is beat up pretty bad and I would love to cover it up with something.
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I've wondered that myself! It looks sort of dirty, but you can't clean it!
DeleteWhen I first read this, I thought you meant you had a teacher's desk with the black stuff already on it. I'm not sure what it is, although as I said before, it doesn't seem to clean well. I've seen people used leather and brads around the edge.

Crazy good makeover! The lamp is amazing...who'd of thunk...yarn! So creative. Love the whole room, the accent wall, paintings, shelf above window, metal basket. Staged to perfection, but livable and workable too. Scooted over from House of Hepworths!
