Happy Memorial Day 2012

Happy Memorial Day!

Top: Homecoming after an 15mo Iraq tour

Bottom: R & R mid deployment

These are a couple of my favorite Memorial Day-type pics. They are from '08 and '09, when my husband was on an 15 mo deployment in Iraq (we were obviously minus the 2 munchkins at that point in time).

His deployment was a blessed one,.... if there is such a thing. No one was lost in the infantry company he commanded,
but there were people lost in his battalion, and the faces of their wives will be forever etched in my mind on Memorial Day.  I don't think my eyes have been completely dry on a Memorial Day since.

Not to rain on anyone's parade.... I love picnicking and BBQing and swimming and soaking up the sun on this patriotic holiday! It is a wonderful day to remember where we live and what we have!

But there is a reality to this holiday that I won't ever forget.

So a huge thanks to all who are serving, or have served in the past, and the families who supported them along the way! If it weren't for your sacrifice and bravery, we wouldn't be living with the rights and freedoms we have today!

Have a blessed Memorial Day everyone!

  5. Oh Katie, it hits close to home when someone you love is in the military, doesn't it? During my sons unit's deployment to Afghanistan, so many were lost. It was always tense for everyone and such a loss of so many wonderful young men. I'm so thankful for your husband's service, and the sacrifices you as his family make.

  6. Katie, I'm so glad you're all united. If you happened to glance at my blog, you saw my sentiments (and technological frustration). Your hubs should be very proud no one in his direct command was lost, especially an infantry command. While we're celebrating, we all need to remember that freedom isn't free. I salute all military families. Janet

  9. Katie, thank you so much for this, and for your husbands service. I love how the boys dressed up as spiderman! Adorable! My husband never served, but both grandfathers did, and I do work for the airforce so I hold the military near and dear to my heart.

God Bless America and our troops!
