Hey everyone.
I wanted to share my little mailbox makeover with you.
I fixed her all up, about a month ago, for my Front Porch Makeover, and shared her when I guest posted at Romance on a Dime.
I liked her triangular handle, and her shape, but she was faded, and boring.
I wanted to adhere some nice vinyl wording to the top, but we have a serious lack of fun vinyl where I live, and I could only find words I liked in black.
....so, I decided to make my own wording for my mailbox makeover.
First, I took the handle off and gave her a quick coat of black spray paint.
Next, I took my favorite vintage wallpaper, (that I have stashed in my basement), and used WordArt in Microsoft Word to create this "Hello" sign that could be cut out.
Then I took the wording and used two coats of Modge Podge to seal them on the mailbox.
Even though it was thicker wallpaper, I still had to smooth the ridges out a couple times. I put one coat of Modge Podge on, let it dry, and then applied the second coat.
Perfect. Now I have an eye-catching mailbox in my entryway.
Now this mailbox is under an awning, so it won't be getting very wet. I'm not sure how well this would work if it was constantly getting hit by bad weather.
I really like how it turned out. It works well with the blue house and my red geraniums
....and, the makeover was FREE :)
Does your mailbox need some sprucing?

What a cute mailbox! We have a boring basic white mailbox and I really want to create something fun one day! I love the "hello" on yours!
ReplyDeleteI painted my mail box too awhile back. You can see it here - http://thependletonhouse.blogspot.com/2012/04/mailbox.html - and it definitely needed it!!! It's underneath our large front porch and definitely helped start our love affair with yellow! Our goal is to buy an antique, free standing one at some point but between finding the right style and one within our budget, I have a feeling we'll be looking for awhile. So I redid what I have with just some spray paint. Gotta love cheap (or in your case, free!) makeovers. I love the little touch on yours and I like the shape and triangle handle too.
ReplyDeleteConsidering our mailbox is down by the road and gets daily visits from the many birds flying around...I would say we definitely need a makeover! Yours looks really nice! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteKatie- It looks great- Smart idea to use the wallpaper and I love the design- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteOh how I love vintage mailboxes. I have a couple of my own but I've never thought to give them a makeover. I love how yours turned out. So cute.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it! The yellow is the perfect pop!
ReplyDeleteAw I love it with the cute greeting! That's the best mailbox I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Katie!!! You did a good job. :)

Katie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea and execution! Seriously. I have the ugliest mailbox in the world so last year I painted it with chalkboard paint and now right random messages on it ...
... though I have to keep it nice because I have the world's meanest mailman ever. As in I'm worried when he goes postal that I may be on his list ...
:)
Linda
hahaha! I bet he's not the type to want a pillow present either??

ReplyDeleteWe really need a mailbox makeover too, though ours gets pelted with rain and is sitting out on a dusty dirt road, but I know my mailman would get a kick out of a bright yellow "Hello" greeting him each day! Such a fun idea!
ReplyDeleteI love the handle! And now that's its all spruced up the whole mailbox looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sunny and welcoming greeting. I'm sure your mail carrier loves it too. Thanks for sharing at this week's party!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun warm little greeting! Great idea!!
ReplyDeleteLove it, it is crazy how something simple can make a big change! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a friendly little mailbox now! Love it!
ReplyDeletePretty! I've been thinking about doing something like this on our mailbox just to dress it up. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteKatie, this is just lovely, it stands out from the wall and the Hello is very inviting for the mailman to leave you letters that are not even yours, hehehe. Very nicely done, I love it. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCute idea Katie!
ReplyDeleteLove how you jazzed the mailbox up!
Thanks for linking up this week!
