and the After......

The first completed room of the house! Ok, well really there is still a little sanding to do around the shower area, but I am so close to the end! I really like how it turned out. Now only about 15 other rooms (if we're including hallways) to go.....yikes! So, I would have LOVED to do this bathroom 1940's/50's style, white and black with the hexagonal white tiles in the floor and a black subway tile boarder, ...was that the 40's or 50's? But with all these little boys and potty training, friends and family said, don't do it, you'll regret it, and they are right. I tried even having white towels in here at first and they were ruined within a week. So....here it is....I tried to salvage everything I could. Mirror, large vanity, even the sink...although that was a nightmare and doing it all over again, I'd get a new sink.
Picture here: New marble tile and backsplash. Tile was on sale at Hm Depot and backsplash I cut almost every piece apart and interwove them so that I wouldn't have that "foot by foot" backplash look. Slightly OCD, but I'm all about the detials.
Keep in mind the bathroom used to be pink and purple....oh yes, it was truly of the 50's with a gold flicked pink countertop and faux marble plastic tile (pink and gray) in the shower area. The previous owner had painted it light purple with dark purple trim....lovely! The flooring was a decent lanolium, but tile is so much better! Click here to see before pics :) http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/05/main-bathroombefore.html
Side cubard is huge and awesome. We just framed in the huge mirror.
I did have other art on the wall, but it just wasn't goin' with the rest. Glad I switched it out for the zebra. I likey! Slightly funky :) You can see the other stuff here: http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-bathroom-artwork.html
Monogrammed towels and stool are posted here: http://blah2beautiful.blogspot.com/2010/05/bathroom-projects-of-dayand-some.html This is that sink....that old sink that was in good shape, leading me to believe I should just keep it! It was a nightmare to get the tile cut around (with my crappy tile saw) and getting it back in was seriously awefull! If I were to do it again, I would just get a new one! My dad would say.."I told you so".
Salvaged the vanity and why not! The trim is AWESOME and it's huge! Lots of space for this old house without a garage! Even the handels were already there :)
Zebra artwork. It's a crappy picture, but it says on the mini chalk boards, "Remember 2 smile". This picture was originally $2 at the Goodwill. It was acutally a poor picture of the last supper. I know, I felt really bad painting over Jesus. Totally weird, but I figured that Jesus doesn't really live on the picture anyways, right! So it turned into the circle artwork that you can see in the link above and then into Zebra, when the circles weren't cuttin' it. Tried to post some signs to remind us through the day, what life is really about.
New light fixture. I even got fancy and added the backsplash as the floor break/devider. I thought that was pretty neat of me :) Also matches along the top of the tub tile.
All cuboards and drawers were cleaned, painted and the bottoms were done in a nice liner. So nice and clean......ahhhh!
That's it! Hope you enjoyed the tour. I am lovin' the room :)
