Bathroom projects of the day...and some crafting questions for you!

$1 at yardsale this weekend! 4 little kids, one on the way, and me being 5'2'' = a house that needs LOTS of stools!

Vinyl lettering from Walmart in the bath section. 3 words and some decorative designs for $4! A little paint and sanding = a cute new stool for the bathroom!
I like it, but here's the delima. I did it in white.... I really wanted it white, so I could use the cheap, black vinyl lettering, but I knew it would get sooo dirty! So I put polyurathane over the top. My idea was to use a zillion coats......Add Image And the letters started to come up! Should I modge podge? Or
maybe more polyu to hold it down?? ok all you crafters our there...I want your suggestions!
Next bathroom item worked on today, some awesome monogrammed towels!
How to:
1.) You need a sister, or a friend with an embroidery machine. (thanks sis)!
2.) Heat n Bond and some ribbon.
Anyone know if this stuff washes ok?? Guess I'll find out.
3.) an iorn...I know you all know this stuff :)
I'm Loving the finished product!
Delima #2!
I went to change out the hardware in the bathroom. It was the bronze 80's stuff.
As you can see from this pic. The hardward (hinges and new hooks I put on) are sliver, as well as the vanity handles and all the other stuff. So I bought a new sliver door handle, trying to find a thin round one, to match the old door handles in the hallway, which I really like.80's handle.
Old Door handles in the rest of the hallway outside the bathroom.I am now realizing (duh!) that the sliver does not go with the brassy ones in the hall. I like the older ones, and don't really want to change them. So here's the Q....to go to a store that has old handles and get one to match the hall ones, or to have the handle match the sliver in the bathroom and not match the ones in the hall??? I'm thinking I better match all the other hallway ones. What do you say??

  1. I just found your blog while blog hopping. (couldn't tell you how I actually got here) I love all the stuff you have done and really enjoyed browsing your blog. I'm going to add you to my blog roll so I'm sure you'll hear from me from time to time.

Anyway, my suggestion for the bench would be to paint the words. A little more time consuming but it would hold up much better. You could trace around the vinyl with a pencil and then just fill in between the lines. It looks really goos though. Also I think you should stick with the same door handles throughout and not worry about it not matching the other metals in your bathroom. Who says we can't mix finishes?

  2. Hi Krystal,
So glad you stumbled upon my blog! Thanks for your great idea about the stenciling! I could repaint it as needed that way also! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Katie, I think the modpodge would work and then the poly over it to give it a smooth and durable finish. LOVE the hand towels!!!

I also wanted to tell you that I finally started my blog!! I have about 10 posts saved in draft and will be trying to post daily. Today was just my introduction post! If you have a chance, come over!!

  4. Katie - there is a Modge Podge "hard". I think that is what you want to use. It is for surfaces that will see a lot of use.
