It's a little odd to have a kitchen door to the front of your house! In the 40's this was the back of the house, and this was the back door. So...now we have 2 front doors. The plan was to take it out and push that little bit of wall back.....but we've run out of time (my husband uses it to take the trash out, so he's secretly happy!). I have to say, I sort of like it now....just needed to be cleaned up!
Obviously.....BEFORE!!!
This was when the walls were pink, the lenolium was still there, and I kept our garbage can and brooms in the corner! YUCK!
I love that the old neighborhood watch sticker was still on the window! Anyone else remember these?
After tileing the floor, painting and adding beadboard to the walls, ...
I began stripping! OK, actually I started painting the door black, but then decided to treat the door as a piece of furniture, and thought of giving it a terrific paint job and some details!
Stripping in progress...
Painted and most of the chalkboard paint on....
Added some wooden accents for fun!
Started sanding to expose some of the wood underneath, and to give these great edges some charecter. Then added some darker varnish to give it an aged look. Lastly, added some high-gloss polyurathane for shine and durability.
Finished product: Here's the top (the stairs are behind the door, so it was hard to get a decent pic).
Here's the bottom.
LOVE these details after some varnish distressing and some high gloss poly!
Daily reminders on the chalkboard bottom.
Unfortunatly, the only picture I could take of the entire door, was at night, since the sun wasn't streaming in! So just as a reminder, the top is a window!
Finished!

I love your door and how you put chalkboard paint on the bottom, very creative. If you have some time maybe you could link this up on my first link party...I be grateful.
ReplyDeleteHa! I remember those stickers. The eye always looked like a boob to me. Weird.

Your home is beautiful! I LOVE your nursery. My 4 yr old boy and baby girl share a room-its harder to pull off than it looks (at least I think so) but you did a fabulous job!

Great door! love the color and the blinds and the chalkboard paint, just everything ;) I think I have that same door. It leads to my back yard. Mine is not anywhere near as fabulous as yours, so I just might have to add a door redo to my ever growing list.
ReplyDeleteToo too cute I just love it!! You did a great job and I love the extra details you added!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from debbiedoos. This door is creative and adorable. Great job! Looks like we follow a lot of the same blogs. Maybe we should follow each other? I'll go first... :)
