Things you can do with a dumpster dive crib: Part 1

I saw a crib sitting by a dumpster the other day. I thought about all the things to do with it! Free junk gets my mind realing! But I remembered that I should not be taking on projects that I don't HAVE to do right now, so I past it by.

It's hard for me to believe that people just junk things like cribs! Think of all the people who need them! I would have given it to the Goodwill or pregnancy center, but was unsure of it's history and working order. So.....

While I was our working in the yard, I realized that I had the perfect places for some of those crib peices....so of course, I had to go back and get it!

What to do with a dumpster dive crib idea #1:   Use it to grow your peas on.

Added chicken wire.....

Planted my peas that had been growing inside....

Awesome! Because the steaks I had with the chicken wire before, weren't very sturdy. This will be perfect! I know....it's not very pretty now, but it will look great with the peas growing up it!

Stay tuned...tomorrow I will add a little paint and repurpose the sides of the crib in the garden as well!

  2. Great idea! I have been looking for a stake/trellis type system for my garden. Now I am going to keep my eyes peeled for something I can repurpose.

  3. Keep an eye up for drop side cribs as they are now not allowed for sale anymore. I know I have one and I am planning on using it for my mother in laws garden if she lets me when my daughter is done using it since I can't sell it again.

  4. this is great! I did the same type of thing with a wooden railing from our playset tower. I love repurposing! Thanks for linking up!

  5. I tried this last year but the glue didn't survive the winter and the arched crib pieces are falling apart. I want to try to repair them with construction adhesive and screws since I really like the look. Also, the varnish finish disintegrated but I plan to slap on some white stain I scored for free at a paint exchange.
Even with all this extra work it is still a super frugal option when compared to new fencing and trellis and I think it looks better than some of the plastic offerings I've seen in stores.
    Thanks for sharing.
