In January, I'll be showing the all the details of my first "Room Re-do for under $50". I've done many rooms for under $50, but this will be the first that I've done for someone else.
This is a sign that will go in the room. The room is my sister's master bedroom and her favorite verse is Lamentations 3:21-23, I put this part of the verse on the sign. " ......because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
She needed something on a blank wall and I figured I had all the supplies I needed already in my house to make this sign, so here's the tutorial.
Sign from things (probably) around your house. Cost = free :)
Old scrap wood (glad I don't throw mine away)
Paint from other projects, that I could mix to get a light gray. White paint was almost dried from a different project, and the gray was 50 cents on markdown.
Mix and paint. Your paint doesn't need to touch all the edges, because this will be the underneath layer of paint. In fact, I purposely left the edges with a little wood to show through.
Print out what you want the sign to say. My printer was almost out of ink, but no excuses, I could still cut the letters out!
Note: after this project I decided to ask for a Cricut for Christmas. I've cut a lot of letters this year! With a Cricut (or similar product), this project would have taken half the time.
Glue-stick the words on. I used a folded piece of paper as my ruler to get the words straight.
Then paint another layer of paint over the glued letters. I used a darker gray. When the paint is still slightly tacky, peel off the letters.
I had to go back and touch up where the paint showed through.
Then I sanded the edges, and added some semi-gloss clear poly-urethane.
Here's what the sign looked like when I was finished.
Next was to get the boards to stay together. I used the thinnest scrap I could find...peg board and some Liquid Nails. I also used my staple gun to staple through the back of the peg board into the boards. If you don't have a staple gun, you could use small nails.
The finished product. Fantastic!....especially when it was for free!

Love it! Is this a verse (or part of) or just a truth? When I make mine if it's a verse I'd like to put the reference. If you already know it, I don't have to look up every word in every concordance to find it, lol. So far I'm not organized to get projects done, but many planned.
