Winter Wreath (made from leftover Christmas decor) Revamped....again!

So, this is a post update! I'm barging in on the previous post to give you a quick update on the wreath. I'll let you read the original post (below) and then I'll chime in on my slight OCD, need to fix it....again and again! lol

I was needing a new wreath on my door yesterday (yes, the Christmas stuff was still lingering there), and I also wanted to participate in CSI's

Visit thecsiproject.com

Crafting with Leftover Christmas Items Challenge. So, I thought I would take care of two things with one project.

Below are the things I use:
Holiday decor greenery that I had used in some vases around the house for Christmas.
I grapevine wreath that I re-use and re-use
A big sliver winter-ish flower (actually bought this after Christmas for 75% off)
a cork circle that you put under plants
and same scrap fabric

First, I took the scrap fabric and cut two strips. One wider than the other (these are to make a ruffle).
I probably cut mine approx 4 ft x 10in and the thinner one 4 ft x 8 in.

* Note, If you decide to make this, make the fabric strips 2 feet longer!

I cut them each in half and place the 2 smaller strips on the 2 larger strips.

Then I took a needle and thread and began to make a ruffle.

I like said before, add extra material, because in the end,
I wanted it to look more ruffly than it did.

I added some burlap that I had lying around.

Then I thought, "how am I going to attach this". I decided to use the wire inside the greenery decor ends. I had to cut them off anyways, to get the greenery and flower to fit on the wreath.

I then poked two holes in the fabric and put the wire through each side, then attaching the fabric to the wreath with it. (I know it's hard to see, but that is wire that I had just twisted).

Here is the wire on this side of the material (I hope that part wasn't too confusing.)

I did this on three parts of the fabric, so it was attached to three parts of the wreath.

Then I began to pull and wire, greenery and flower through the wire that I had attached the fabric with. I had to cut extra wire for this also.

I wired everything down where I wanted it.

Then I made this cute little 'Winter" sign to go on the wreath by taking that cork circle, some cut out letters and branches.

I pulled off this clip from a pinecone Christmas decoration and glued it on.

(this was the original wreath)

I think I put Winter on there so I could leave the wreath up for awhile. You could make this with winter Christmas ornaments, and real greenery, or even plastic dollar store snowflakes.

Entire wreath took about an hour to make.

And now I'll catch you up on the past 1.5 days (after posting this). I made this wreath late at night, and then quickly photographed, edited and posted this the next morning, trying to get it all together before the CSI deadline.

That evening, I went to get a movie and when I came back in I thought to myself, "I'm not so sure about the material on that wreath....it's not quite what I was trying to do, in fact, it sort of looks like a material blob!" lol

So that lead me to ask my husband (who is a total minimalist...not quite a design mind, if ya know what I mean) if he thought it looked a little blobish. He said, "ya, it has way too much stuff on it. Definitely material blobish."

From there on out, all I could see was the big material blob! Dose this happen to you too? You see something you think is a little "off" and you just can't get it out of your head?

Since, it's on my front door, I wanted the wreath to greet me and make me happy. At this point all I could see was the material blob, so as silly as this whole thing sounds (or it doesn't sounds silly at all, because you're ridiculous like I am), I took it up and down, photoed it and decided it wasn't right 3 MORE TIMES! Geesh! I'm sure I had better things to do on a Sat morning!

But I finally did come up with something that I liked better. I took apart the strips of material I had laid on one another and elongated them (my first suggestion of change that I had put in the original post). This way I was able to get the material to ruffle a little more. I also tucked the inside material in, and shortened the outside.

Still not perfect. I would move the flower and the winter sign a little, but much better and something that will make me happy when I walk in. ..plus I have to get onto doing other things!

Can any of you relate?? I bet so....

*Originally a material blob or not, I made it in the top 10!

  2. Thanks Aimee,
I came home last night and looked at it and thought, "it sort of looks like it's a wreath with a big material blob", my husband (who is a total minimalist) said, "ya, it does look like a material blog", well then I just kept going and opening the door, thinking, oh my, that does look like a material blob. I'm now in the process of changing it. Geesh! lol
