Oh Come On.....Knock it Off!

I've been wanting to start this series for awhile, but with life being as busy as it is, I've really been sticking to two to three project posts/week and the linky party on Tuesdays. Well, since I'm sort of tired of editing photos, I decided to just get this series started!

Welcome to
Oh Come On.....Knock it Off! #1

This series will feature all of those projects we see and say, "what? I could make that! They are charging what for that?!"

Hopefully it will inspire you to make something new, that is being sold somewhere else for much more! If they aren't your style, hopefully you'll at least get a laugh.

So let's see what I found this week.

1.)  These are really cool Pottery Barn numbers, and 3 for $39 isn't an awful price, but I think we could make them for less than that.

2.) Does this little stool say Anthropology or what? It's one I'd love, but for $480!!! You've got to be kidding. Let's count the pieces of wood...1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9...and there might be one underneath, so I'll make it 10 pieces of wood, just for good humor, and a little paint. I'm pretty sure many of you could be making this one for free.

3.) Number three is from Dwell Studios. Personally, I really like Dwell Studios, but can you guess how much this painting is? $1,095! It's cool and all, but I think my 8 yr old could handle this one.

4.) I'm loving these patriotic candles by West Elm!  I think I actually will knock this one off for the 4th of July. I'm pretty sure I have it pinned.  You can get a set of 5 right now for $25, but can anyone say, metal skewer...through a candle and into your grass?!
Maybe not as high quality, but I'm pretty sure this could be a Dollar Store knock-off.

5.) Here is another pick on Anthropology. I know that we all love Anthropology, but we also all love to pick on their prices! How about this pillow for $118?!  I think we could find some heavy-duty embroidery thread and make due. I actually has sequins at the bottom of the thread, and I think we could handle that too.

So there you have it. My top 5 for the "Oh Come on.....Knock it Off!" series.
Will you be trying any?

  1. Every time I'm in one of those stores, I'm inspired and dismayed at the prices. Really? $118 for that pillow. Knock it off!!

    1. I know, I came from a family who made everything. I think I would be really bad at pricing things, because I would think, "who would pay that?", but apparently, people do!

  9. This is a great series and trust me....these companies are laughing all the way to the bank! That painting...a blank canvas....what FOOLS are out their buying this stuff? And that stool....looks like it came from someones machine shed. I have several like that! I'd would love to make some money but no one would pay me $480.00 for both of them mush less 1! It's all about their brainwashing type marketing to the public and how stupid people are to fall for it time and again in clothing, purses, cars...you name it. I can't say I haven't done it myself or looked at their catalogs but usually to get ideas or inspiration. So now I look at it as free inspiration just without the tutorial! LOL! You gals in the blogging community are WAY more talented than those people who create that stuff. Half of it has been done before and they've either dug it up from the past or stolen the idea from a poor struggling tribe somewhere.
I'm sorry but it just makes me so mad first of all that they would take advantage of a struggling economy and import so much of it when there is talent right here in the U.S. and secondly that shoppers are that stupid to fall for their gimmicks. Ok...I'll get off my soapbox now! Sorry! I want my home to reflect me and my personality not some store brand...same with my clothes, etc. I can look at certain blogs and their homes and decorating and after awhile they all start looking the same. Express yourself....have the confidence and pride in yourself and your family to flaunt your OWN style not someone elses! Take what you love and make it yours. I've stopped subscribing to magazines as there is more talent and more great ideas and inspiration in blogland and Pinterest than in all those glossies! And I can Google and search and be inspired to create my own little world! You Go Girls! You all ROCK!
