John and the kids ripped the old carpet off. Later we realized that the vinyl underneath was glued down to the stairs, which resulted in us taping/tarping off, masking up, plugging in the HEPA and chip, chip, chipping away untill it was all off! Ugh! I think that took about 5 zillion years!
In the middle of this project, I wished we would have just had someone recarpet the stairs! With all the vinyl off, and lots of the wood on the stair tops damaged from chipping the vinyl away, I set out to find some decent stair tread, and as much as I dislike carpet, the stairs were pretty cold without any.
Found these great Garden Gate stair tread pads from Home Depot. One of the easiest things I've ever installed!
Decor at the top of the stairs.
That really looks good and I know that was hard work. Love the treads. Thanks so much for linking up.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did! I do have a question though, I have the same exact set up in my townhouse. My staircase looks identical to yours, my question is, how did you get to the wall above the stairs to put the saying up? I have always wanted to put something on that blank wall, but just couldn't find a way to get up there. Could you tell me how to put a ladder up or how you managed to do it. Thanks

Carey, I borrowed a friend's extention ladder made it very easy :)

ReplyDeleteThe stairs turned out great. I'm on the threshold of ripping out our carpet on our stairs and was going to paint or stain them, but those stair treads just might work. I'll have to look into them. Did you find them at the store or online? (found you at Northern Cottage) I'm your newest follower. Have a great weekend!
